iFollow
I wrote this page so that you do not have to "view source" to ascertain if I use the "no-follow" tag in the comments section of this Blog, or not. By reading this you can be safe in the knowledge that I do not employ it.
The no-follow tag was invented as a method of trying to eliminate Blog comment spam, which was playing havoc with dear Google's algorithm. So what you'll discover now is that the majority of Blogging platforms now ship with the "no-follow" tag included in the code. You can easily check that out by "viewing source" and looking at the HTML itself, if you do not know what that means it's time to learn.
No-follow?
Yes, this is a snippet of code which instructs search engine robots to not follow urls in a web, or more to the point, to not pass on any page rank to the linked page. The logic here is that unscrupulous webmasters/mistresses were using robots (still do) to automatically post comments with a url back to their site which they are/were pimping.
Why take it out?
I have not employed it on my Blog here because I think that if you are kind enough to come along and leave a comment the least I can do is share some Google Juice back to your site, it would be pretty selfish otherwise, which is common practise actually. As well as that I have an anti-spam comment system in place which is perfectly adequate of detecting a human.
Disclaimer
If you represent any of the following niches I will always edit your link, so you would be wasting your time posting.
- Gambling
- Porn
- Religious fanatics

Thanks a bundle for this.
Thanks a bundle for this.
People are saying to use it, people are saying not to use it. But after reading this and a few other blogs along the same meme, it makes more sense to take it out. Which I have.
IFollow Movement
There are places to use nofollow and places where it should not be used.
For example, the link on your page to the "login" area should be nofollow. Links to redundant or useless content that search engines may not like (like results pages) should be nofollow.
For comments you should definitely remove nofollow because that will encourage user interaction. Make sure you have some basic antispam protection and allow users to report spam. This will get more users on your blog / forum and will give your blog / forum more value since there will be people likely to link to it since it is a good resource for people to use.

do follow vs no follow
Great post once again Chris!! I honestly didnt know the meaning of that term until earlier this year.. when I found out thru a friends forum.. I had been using the PR backlink generator tool to find similar blogs such as mine to leave receptive comments (inputted manually I might add) in the hope it would build a lil more power into my own url.. how wrong I was...
It was only recent that I met up with a guy who is a firm believer of dofollow, and that his taken time in explaining it to me, and made me see and understand the benefit of dofollow
I agree.. not everyone is a spammer.. and it would be unfair to penalise the folk who take the time to share the love by comming and leaving comments.. still have much to learn about it.. but have come across a brill site called linksbible (I think thats its name.. which is a directory that lists only dofollow blogs) you can search for blogs in your niche and also add yours to it as well..
I too have enabled it.. using a plug in avail in wp.. with wp at least theres a good spam filter so you can delete the junk before it has a chance to appear anywhere near your site.. great stuff!!
Cheers!!

Thanks for this
I strongly support do follow
I strongly support do follow too, I have been looking around a lot for blogs which are nofollow free. Its tough to find good people give us a backlink by turning off the nofollow.I think people should open up more to the concept.
Link Checker
Well it's takes time to check the links is all, but I don't mind that.
Thanks a lot for the
Thanks a lot for the backlink, very kind of you, highly appreciated. :)

That's Ok
NO problem, hope the pregnancy site works out.
nofollow
I do not think that the nofollow is a useful tool to eliminate spam. For that I think are better alternatives, such as any questions to ensure that a person who is signing
do follow helps bring blogs to life
without it blogs recieve many less comments. i think giving the commenter a little link juice is a nice way to say "thank you, please comment again"
Feel
Yes, that's how I feel.
spam
Hi Chris,
I am not sure why google did this. I mean if people are spamming your site the blog should moderate the comments first so the blog owner can modify them if needed.
A question...
Why people says that dofollow could be dangerous? Can you explain me that??? Good post
Do follow blogs
nice the do follow blogs attracto more visitors to them.
Say Thank You
Hey, thank you very much for providing dofollow blog at here.
It would not be the good idea
I don't want that my blog becomes folow and open for the commentators who tend to give link on the various blog just for the sake of gaining one way lnk.
Fish
That's OK, I'll just edit your site url.
Thanks for the fish.
Thanks for sharing your PR

So you have did the same as any other unscrupulous webmasters/mistresses would have done to a blog comment having an external link associated with it. By doing so you are backed out of your own words as uttered in the article Mr. Admin :-)

question on backlinks
Hi Chris,
Thank you for giving us a backlink. One question though,
Should I post to forums with high index page but the actual page for putting links has no PR at all? Will google still consider this as a boost to my PR?
thank you.
On Topic
Yes it is good practice if ON TOPIC - otherwise not so much.
Google likes links coming to you from similar content sites, related sites.
thank you
Hi Chris, just drop by to say thank you for your insightful tips. I will surely follow it. Maybe the hard part is looking a site similar to your niche.
Authority
Yes that can be, if you don't find one become the authority yourself.
Thanks, at last that has
Thanks, at last that has found that wished to read here.
By the way, I have drawings on this theme. Where it is possible to throw off?
eh?
What?
That's spam, Chris
It's definitely automatically generated text-- they're taking advantage of your dofollow page :)
I personally think dofollow is great but nofollow helps immensely to prevent the majority of spam.
Long live do follow
Hi, its nice to see one more in the do follow movement, I can't understand why many of them still stick to no follow when there is no reason to do so except to stop spam, which can be done by many other means. Do follow not only encourages the commentators to comment on the blog but also spreads the link juice.
Kudos to you
Hi Chris,
Just like to say being nice is not the bad right? So I don't understand why others bloggers move their blogs to nofollow. As you can see here, your visitors(including me) are giving you good comments and having a good time "socializing". I hope they visit your site and find that dofollow is actually good after all.
